Summer, My Muse | Joseph Lubushkin
No Single Moment | Rachel Fein
July 26 - August 28
Currently on display at Backstock Gallery are two solo shows: Summer, My Muse by San Francisco based artist, Joseph Lubushkin and No Single Moment by San Francisco based artist Rachel Fein.
Interested in how the natural landscape can be interpreted as a dreamscape, Joseph Lubushkin uses the quintessential idea of summer as an anchor in this body of work. Summer, My Muse takes the experience of a single afternoon and translates it into a dreamy narrative inviting pause and reflection as we wander from piece to piece.
Rachel Fein sees photographs as “fantastic fictions” that act as stand ins for the real thing. Interested in how photographs operate as communicators her body of work No Single Moment attempts to excavate meaning from the photograph.
Originally from Southern California, Joseph Lubushkin moved to San Francisco to study photography at San Francisco Art Institute where he earned his BFA in 2008. He uses photography to explore how landscape can translate to dreamscape and employs experimental photographic techniques to realize his ideas. www.josephlubushkin.com
Rachel Fein is a native of Buffalo, New York, currently living and working in San Francisco after receiving her BFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2014. Her photographic process is concerned with the intimate relationships cultivated between people and their own personal visual associations, and the capacity of visual language to represent those visual associations. The recipient of the Still Photography Award, as well as the Robert Howe Fletcher Cup Honor in 2014, she has exhibited in Buffalo, San Francisco, and Hollywood. rachelfein.tumblr.com
